HISTORY

Journal Al-Muqaddimah was established in 2013 by the Department of Islamic History and Civilization, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, with the primary vision of empowering high-calibre scholarly research in the field of Islamic history and civilization. The establishment of this journal was a proactive response to the growing academic demand among scholars and postgraduate researchers for a specialized platform capable of harmonizing classical Islamic historical scholarship with the dynamics of contemporary studies, particularly within the framework of intellectual renewal discourse.

Since its first publication, Journal Al-Muqaddimah was published biannually in a fully digital format under the title “Journal of Postgraduate Studies in Islamic History (Al-Muqaddimah)” from 2013 to 2016. Beginning in 2017, the journal was published through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform under the name “Al-Muqaddimah: Online Journal of Islamic History and Civilization” until 2025. Starting in 2026, articles will be published under the title Journal Al-Muqaddimah.

The journal implements a rigorous double-blind peer-review system, ensuring academic integrity, research originality and high analytical rigor. Its editorial policy consistently encourages the submission of original research articles, conceptual studies, critical analyses and scholarly reviews that contribute to the advancement and renewal of the scholarly corpus in Islamic history and civilization.
